Thistle Infestation #860878

Asked March 08, 2024, 10:54 AM EST

I live in Colorado Springs. My backyard lawn is infested with what I think is Canadian thistle. Spreads more every year and I cannot control it anymore. Normal weed killers don't work. I don't want to kill the remaining grass. Any recommendations? I think my yard was infected when I had it air rated (sp?) a couple of years ago.

Expert Response

Hello,
We first need to positively identify what you have in your yard.  If you have a picture from last year, please attach it.  Otherwise, we'll have to wait until it comes up to be sure.  That allows for the most effective weed management.

Hi, Tom
I can't quite see clearly enough from the pictures, but it could be Canada thistle.   It could be confirmed once the leaves green up again in the spring.  What percent of your yard is infested?  What weed killers have you used?  When did you treat them?
