If your suppose to give your vegetable plants fertilizer only if they need it, why does the bag read apply every 3-4 weeks through growing season?
Also how would you know if your vegetable plants need it or not?
There are just to many contradiction about this online and fertilizer label directions.

Different vegetables have different nutrient needs. The instructions on the fertilizer bag are probably generally fine, but they might not be optimal in every situation, and you may end up applying more fertilizer that necessary.
