Caliche soil #859948

Asked February 26, 2024, 5:25 PM EST

How do I mitigate this soil problem? I read elemental sulphur is a good solution. T. or F. ? If so how do I apply it? Thanks for your response. Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Thank you for your question.  Can you clarify what soil problem you are referring to?  (I'm assuming potential high soil pH but would like confirmation).

Feel free to contact me directly if you would like.

Thanks!

Dear Lisa, the soil here is shallow and very hard to dig into when planting seeds. Is also very difficult to pull weeds from soil, turn soil, etc. I n past seasons we have purchased soil/manure and tilled it in which helped somewhat. I’ve read that this soil type can be amended by adding Sulfur. One article says the soil must be 2 feet deep when applying Sulphur. Is that true? Our soil is nowhere near that deep. Suggestions please! Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Thanks for your additional response. What are you wanting to grow/plant or your goals for the planting area?  I think it would be easier to further discuss over the phone.  Feel free to give me a call!

Thank you,

Lisa
