Rolly Polly Bugs #858779

Asked February 08, 2024, 7:01 PM EST

I am trying to do some type of insect farm with my first grade team as a teacher. We have butterfly's, praying mantis, and lady bugs already taken. I was going to do ants, but recently discovered that you can nothave them shipped into Oregon, even for a children's farm. I then found a roly poly farm. However I cannot find any information about those being restricted for shipping into Oregon. Do you happen to know this information?

I am checking with Oregon Dept. of Agriculture to see what the regulations are. Will share as soon as I hear from them.

This is what I received from ODA about Rolly Polly.

For Pill Bugs we have a list of approved invertebrates that can be brought into Oregon: https://www.oregon.gov/oda/shared/Documents/Publications/IPPM/OregonApprovedInvertebrateList.pdf

Also, USDA APHIS has a 526 form that should be filled out and submitted to USDA when moving invertebrates between states or from outside the country. https://www.aphis.usda.gov/library/forms/pdf/PPQ_526.pdf

There are genera of sowbugs/pillbugs that are on the approved list so if they are in that genera and a form is filled out with USDA they should be fine to bring in.

Hope this helps.  Rich
