Can you please tell me what kind insect this is. We found this in the bathroom. We don't know if it can sting or cause damage of any sort. Regards, Tina Rains

Expert Response

Hello,

This is a lacewing, either in the genus Chrysopa or Chrysoperla. These insects pose no threat to you or anyone/anything in your home. Their larvae are predatory, feeding on garden pests. The adults are sometimes considered nuisance invaders; they make their way into homes in search of warmth, often dying shortly thereafter. Cracks around doorways/windows/vents are the most common port of entry. Let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you very much for your response. It seems then that this critter may be of benefit to our garden.
