Elm tree issue #858140

Asked January 30, 2024, 3:39 PM EST

I have a 100+ year old elm tree that came with my house which I bought 17 years ago. I have continued to have the tree pruned, cabled and inoculated for DED. When the leaves fell throughout late 2023-early 2024, roughly 80-90% look like they had insect damage. Is this a problem, concern, what should I do, etc.

I can't be certain, but that could be the elm leaf beetle, which is the most common insect leaf feeder on elm.  They do cause this type of feeding, but also can skeletonize the leaves.

If the leaves aren't too heavily damaged, it might not need protection from the insect, but that can be tricky.  Check out this publication link and decide if you think this is the elm leaf beetle.
