Education( plants, trees) #855620
Asked November 21, 2023, 10:29 AM EST
Our community in the Flat Rock, Michigan area wishes to partner with an elementary school to plan an Earth Day event in 2024. While development of this idea is in its early stages, our initial image is that a knowledgeable person who relates well to children would be able to speak to the children and help them understand the importance of plant life, in particular trees, to our environment and to the sustainability of human life. Does the Michigan State Extension Office provide this kind of service or might it be possible to refer us to another organization who does?
Thank you!

Expert Response
Hi Tom,
Thank you for your inquiry. I sent an email to someone within 4-H to see if they have anyone on staff who feels comfortable doing an Earth Day presentation for you. (I typically work with adults, while 4-H staff work with children.)
I can also reach out to the Wayne County Extension Master Gardeners and see if any of them would like to work with you.
However, I would also recommend that you contact the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. You can use this link to request a speaker: https://www.metroparks.com/request-a-speaker/
I will be in touch again when I hear from my colleagues.

Hi Tom,
I'm going to email you privately with contact information for some Extension Educators who may be able to speak at your event.
