Is Arborvitae Sick? #855406

Asked November 16, 2023, 4:16 PM EST

Hi, I have three Green Giant Arborvitae planted along the road for privacy. While I was away last winter, deer ate one of them. You correctly advised me that they would get new growth in the spring although the bottom is still very thin. However, one side of that tree is definitely not thriving, and inner growth is turning brown. See photos. Is there anything I can do to save the tree? Thank you!

Expert Response

From what we can see from your photos, we think this looks like the natural shedding of some older internal needles which happens naturally in the fall for Arborvitae.
