I found boring beetle issues (holes and the little hatchling's) in the barrel room which is next to the vineyard. I was told that I need to kill the beetles in the vineyard, eradicate the blackberries and fog the barrel room (I am reluctant to do this for fear it can affect the wine). I needed to know what I can use in the vineyard to eliminate them... and if you have any suggestions for the barrel room, ... boy, I wouldn't mind that information as well.

You will need to determine the specific type of pest that you have, the population size, and where they are originating from in order to develop a pest control plan. Grapevine cane borers are sometimes present in vineyards, but they should not be found in wineries. They are usually already in overwintering sites by this time of year. If the borers are coming from some other place in the surrounding environment, that should be determined. It is difficult to tell which insect is in your photo. I recommend that you work with your local Douglas County Extension staff, Logan Bennett, to help identify the issue and come up with a control plan. Do not apply any insecticides in the winery until you have a better idea of what pest you are dealing with. You should also consider reaching out to Dr. James Osborne, Extension Enologist, if you have questions about in-winery pesticide use.
