Cedar Beetle (Sandalus niger) #853855

Hi- I saw and photoed a Cedar Beetle (Sandalus niger) (as identified online!) and research shows it is a western bug. I see no references to it being in NC in my brief search and thought this may be of interest or concern to you. I live in Orange County. Thanks- Susan Reeves (photo available)

I contacted NCSU Extension entomologist.  He said this insect is native to NC and not a pest.  Thanks for your awareness.

 I had only found reference to the western part of the country as their habitat.  So, good to know! I appreciate your checking it out and letting me know.  And it is pretty to look at!
