Invasive beetle? #853617

Asked October 20, 2023, 3:44 PM EDT

I found a very large insect in the netting of my blueberry enclosure. Can you identify it for me and suggest any action that may be needed? Thank you.

This is the California Prionus; Prionus californicus. This native beetle is found in most of the PNW where there are forest and urban trees. It is native to our region. They will not harm blueberry bushes. They are found in the late summer and fall. They are one of our largest beetles. They feed on the roots of broad-leaved trees.
