Saving Siberian Elm #853615

Asked October 20, 2023, 3:03 PM EDT

This beauty is stressed and we are wondering what we can do to save her and help her feel better. We have trimmed her years back. Any advice to help? Should we trim back more to get the energy back to the main body? Thanks so much for any advice you can give.

Hi Kathy -
I am not familiar with Siberian Elms, but this is what I found out:
https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/trees/handbook/th-3-117.pdf
So, because this tree seems to have a habit of dropping branches, getting damaged by herbicides easily, and is susceptible to certain cankers, I am not sure where to start. It looks like it has "wetwood".

Wetwood Management: There is no anti-bacterial spray or treatment to eliminate these chronically active bacteria. Moreover, the bacteria are widespread, and removing infected branches also will not fix the problem. Remove dead or decaying branches, however, to help improve overall tree health.

I hope this helps you somewhat!
