Black beetle #852959

Can you please help me identify the black beetle in the attached photo. I found it on a sidewalk in Louisville (Boulder County, CO). As a non-expert, I would guess it is a scarab of some kind, but I would appreciate more detailed information from someone who knows, Thank you.

Hi Karl,

You have observed a Sand Darkling Beetle (Eusattus reticulatus). There is a lack of information on this species, but members of the darkling beetle family (Tenebrionidae) are known to feed on fungus, wood, and decaying plant material.
