type of clump grass in front yard lawn and how to get rid of #851446

Asked September 27, 2023, 4:23 PM EDT

I have numerous clumps of grass growing in my front yard. The clumps are about 6 to 8 inches high. and 3 to 6 inches wide. The grass leaf is very thin, like 1/16 of inch  wide.  Leaf shiny on the outside and little  rough to touch on inside. The leafs are bent in half the long way. I pulled out one clump  and pulled up large amount of attached dirt. I recently reseeded front yard with blue gramma and buffalo grass. Unsure where clumps came from. I would like to know best way to get rid of the clumped grasses.

thank you

Hi Michael,

If you could please take and email several photos of your clumps of grass, including some that are very 'close up' so we can actually see the blades, (maybe even laying down a ruler next to one), that would help us to help you.

Annual grasses can be a real problem in lawns and here is a Fact Sheet based upon horticulture research from Colorado State University about some common problem grasses and how to get rid of them: https://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/yard-garden/control-of-annual-grassy-weeds-in-lawns-3-101/
