Black eyed Susans sprouting from seed head #851440

I’ve had black eyed susans in my yard for 40 years and have never seen them sprouting from the seed heads.

Unfortunately this is a disease called Aster Yellows. You can read more information about it and how to keep it from spreading on the link provided. There are additional links at the bottom of the page as well. 

It can spread by leaf hopper insects, so it is recommended that you remove these plants and bag and dispose of them.
