Hi LaVerne
We need a little more i formation, please.
1.
Please tell us approximately how tall is the walnut, or how far out does the longest branch reach? The size determines how far away you should try to plant.
Also there are at least two trees called tulip tree in our area. Did you buy a Magnolia species  ( see https://sites.redlands.edu/trees/species-accounts/saucermagnolia/)

or a Liriodendron species (see https://plantdatabase.uconn.edu/detail.php?pid=260)

2.The tag on the tree should say the species and the mature height and width.  Does yours state a height and width?
3. Does your tag state which tree you have-Liriodendron or Magnolia?
Some Liriodendron species  trees get very large and it is best that the trees do not overlap.
Magnolia trees are somewhat smaller and can grow slightly overlapping.
I will watch for your reply.
