We have had our farm pond redone, and have 1/2 acre plus of ground that needs to be seeded. I'd like wildlife friendly plantings, mixed grasses and flowering plants, and need advice. Sandy soil some bits of clay.

Mary,
Thank you for using Michigan State University Extension Ask Extension with your question. This is not really a pond question as much as it is a native plants question. Wildlife friendly plantings by its nature means that wildlife will be feeding on them. Here are some websites that will help you to make some decisions. I recommend that you start with a conservation management plan.

plant a variety of items to provide food, cover and places to raise young along with your water already present. Consider native plantings to include trees, shrubs, grasses and foliage along with flowering plants. this will provide the widest variety of seeds, nuts, berries, and nectar for a wide range of wildlife.
