plant I.D. #850914

Asked September 22, 2023, 2:18 PM EDT

This plant is in a spot maybe 2'x2' growing among some tall pines where there is sunlight. There is only this one spot on my six acres. The plants are between 4 and 5 feet tall.

Washtenaw County Michigan

This closely resembles a white wood aster-https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/eurybia-divaricata/
While I am not completely convinced it is this exact aster, I believe it is in this family.  The timing is right and leaf looks similar. Many of the asters will be as tall as you describe.
I agree that the leaves look like aster leaves and that fall is the time asters flower, but aster flowers have distinct rays. This plant doesn’t have rays at all, only fine, short hairlike parts on 1/4 inch florets. I think it looks like Late Flowering Thoroughwort  or some other type of Eupatorium. What do you think?

I believe this is white snakeroot (Ageratina altissima), which is a native, herbaceous perennial in Michigan
