bee friendly lawn planting #849863

Asked September 14, 2023, 8:42 AM EDT

I have tried for 3 years to grow a bee friendly lawn which incorporates fescue, self heal, thyme, clover and yak yarrow to no avail. The thyme is healthy, but nothing else seems to make it through the hot summers even though I water. I am thinking of seeding now . Can I do this? Will the above plants survive if I do this? What grass would you recommend for a sunny lawn that would also be appropriate for a bee lawn?

Expert Response

Now is the best time to seed fescue. Clover is a good sunny and bee friendly plant. Try a soil test first to see if that can identify the issue with the plants growing. There is a fee for that, $19.  https://soiltest.cfans.umn.edu/
Self heal and clover do not like heat, which may be the problem.
