Where can I purchase specific fruit tree rootstock (retail Qty)? #849705

Asked September 13, 2023, 4:18 AM EDT

Hello,

I want to purchase about a dozen to 15 bareroot (rootstock) trees and am not finding places to order them.

I understand it should be mailed to me come spring, but I want to be prepared and get an order placed with plenty of time.

Quantity of each: 12-15

Rootstock type: Krymsk-86 AND Geneva G.30

I've studied rootstock enough to realize these are what I want, but where to get this small quantity for shipment in the spring has stumped me (bad pun, intended!)

Thank you.

Expert Response

Unfortunately, there are not many sources for apple rootstocks available to home gardeners at retail, instead of wholesale.

The few that I’ve come across include:
https://raintreenursery.com/
http://www.cumminsnursery.com/

Even these sources do not have an extensive selection and may have order minimums.
Stock is typically very limited and I do not know if they will have any of the rootstock varieties you have mentioned. Most of the availability is posted in fall or early winter so it's good to check frequently so you can purchase what you need before they sell out.

This site has a list of nurseries that sell apple trees.  Many carry rootstock, but may not sell them in the quantities you are looking for.  It may be worth investigating to see if they have what you are looking for.  https://apples.extension.org/u-s-fruit-tree-nurseries/
