identification of an insect and plant #848770

Asked September 05, 2023, 7:08 PM EDT

I have an insect that I think is a wet termite. Is this an insect that someone can identify if I bring it in? Also we have a vine that is growing in our garden and producing what looks like a squash of some kind. Do you think you could identify if I bring in a leaf of the plant and one of the squash? Also, where is the nearest CSU extension center to Bellview and Federal Blvd.?

Yes, please bring in samples and send in photos!

For the termite, please bring in the sample. You can also email me photos at <personal data hidden>. Are you seeing evidence of termites, too? Or just found an insect? Please take photos of the evidence as well if you have it.

You can also bring the vine and take a pictures of the plant in your garden. Feel free to email photos and details to <personal data hidden>.

Sending in photos is a free service. If you bring in a sample, we have a fee of $8 for each sample.

I previously emailed pictures.
I didn’t answer your question as to have we seem termites. If the bug that I sent you a photo of is a termite then yes .  That is the the second one that I have seen.
Our neighbor has termites, and had Terminix place bait out for them.  Subsequently we had Terminix come out and because our basement is finished they weren’t able to see any mud caves that they saw in our neighbors basement.  However, they said we did have termites so we had them install the bait traps as well.
I looked up wet termites on the Internet, and it seems as if this bug is a termite, looks the same, to my untrained eye.

Hi Jeriann,

I didn't receive any photos. Did you email them? What email address did you use? There were not any photos attached to this question.

Identification is important because termites look very similar to winged ants. Here is a link that shares the differences. Again, I am happy to provide an ID! I apologize that I didn't receive your photo.

Would it be possible for you to resend the pictures? You can directly to me at <personal data hidden>, or you can attach them to this question.

Here is a little more info about the termites found in Colorado: https://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/insects/termites-5-532/

Thanks,

Lisa
