Is this fire blight? #848698

Asked September 05, 2023, 2:00 PM EDT

We have an old apple tree and this is the first year where we’re actually seeing apples. However, a large part of the tree appears dead. Is this fire blight? Does the whole thing need to come down? Any recommendations are appreciated! Thanks!

Hello,

This doesn’t appear to be fire blight. You could submit a sample to the plant & pests diagnostics lab at MSU.  https://www.canr.msu.edu/pestid/

The branch where the damage is seems to be dead at the base and it should be removed  but the rest of the tree seems healthy.
