Expert Response

Hello!

The pollen source does not affect the current season's fruit. If seed from cross-pollinated fruit is saved and planted, the resulting fruit may be inedible (If it is bitter, discard it and remove plant).  https://extension.sdstate.edu/saving-seed-pumpkins-squash-cucumbers-melons-and-gourds.

Of note, cross pollination can occur only between varieties within the same species. Here is a link for more information:  https://hortnews.extension.iastate.edu/cross-pollination-between-vine-crops
