I'm wondering how to treat my ailing thornless Hawthorne tree I planted last fall. The other two trees I planted at the same time are doing fine.

I'm wondering how to treat my ailing thornless Hawthorne tree I planted last fall. The other two trees I planted at the same time are doing fine.

Hi,
Thank you for reaching out about your Hawthorn trees. I am attaching a few watering fact sheets for you to review so we can narrow down the possibilities of what is affecting the health of the trees. Because they were newly planted last fall my first question would be about how frequently they were watered over the winter during their establishment period. My next question would be to look at the bark for any sun scald (high risk on new trees) or any other signs of pest.
Please take a look at the facts sheets [#7.211 Winter Watering & #7.418 Small Deciduous Trees] to see if the watering is sufficient. Then please send in pictures of the bark/trunk especially on the south/west side of the tree.
