Peach tree issue #846069

Asked August 17, 2023, 10:10 AM EDT

Hi, I have a Contender Peach tree. This is the first year we are getting a good crop of peaches. I've attached a photo of the peaches that shows a fungus or disease of some sort on the surface of the fruit. What is this and is there any way of getting rid of this in the future? Is it safe to eat the fruit? Thanks!

Expert Response

Hi David,

This may be peach scab or bacterial leaf spot. The fruit should be safe to eat.

The best prevention strategies is to prune the trees when they are dormant in early spring so that air can circulate. Rake up all fallen leaves and any fallen fruit to make sure the site is clear of debris in fall, and get that debris out of your yard.
