Slime in grass #845894

Asked August 16, 2023, 11:00 AM EDT

I am wondering what this is and if I should or how I should treat it. It is present with rain or in drought. It is very slippery when stepped on. You can’t really see it until you slip on as it is under the blades of grass

Anoka County Minnesota

Expert Response

From your photo, it looks like you have slime mold. There are many varieties and usually show up in wet weather but will persist during dry spells.

They don’t kill the grass and we don’t recommend any kind of herbicide or fungicide. Mowing well, raking and a strong spray of water will help control it.

Nice photo!
