Help.. What kind of larvae are these? #845559

Asked August 14, 2023, 11:05 AM EDT

Two days ago I saw a small spot on the wall leading to the second floor of my house.  I thought my son spilled a drink or something. Yesterday it appeared to be opaque and shiny.  I scratched a portion with my fingernail and assured myself it was just dried beverage and I would have my son clean it.  This morning, the spot has small white open eggs and lots of brown larvae with squirming around.  The appear to be about the size of maggots.  The wall is intact behind it so no leaks etc..  Help!!!

Hi Leah,

These appear to be the larvae of a type of moth, beetle or sawfly. It is difficult to make an identification beyond that because of the photo resolution. But I do not think they're of medical significance. They will likely migrate to the plants in your garden, so I'd keep an eye out for plant damage. Let me know if you are able to get higher resolution pictures, or if you notice them on garden plants.
