Flying Ants? #845357

Asked August 12, 2023, 11:11 AM EDT

Hello, I believe that we have a swarm of flying ants in our parking strip. Could you please confirm from the pictures, if they are indeed flying ants? If so, I would appreciate some information on how to get rid of them, naturally. We had them last year, as well, but in much smaller numbers, so I believe they will keep returning each summer. Thank you!!

Kristi:

These are not flying ants. Theya are one of the smaller bees that do not sting. The picture is not focused enough for me to make an ID. If you can get a pic in focused that would be helpful.

Let me know if you have any additional questions. Thank you for contacting us at Extension. Rich

Thank you so much for your help in identifying these insects. I’m attaching some clearer images that will hopefully be more helpful.

You have taken good pictures and you have taken pic of two different insects. One is a small bee (not an ant) You need not worry about them as they will not sting. The other is a small fly like the one we find flying around fruit in our kitchen. As for getting rid of them, keep your fruit covered.
