Cluster flies in the summer? #845350

Asked August 12, 2023, 10:30 AM EDT

About 10 days ago cluster flies appeared in the home. The activity was more at the beginning, but has been decreasing. Just a day or two it increased a bit. Today there were only three seen in the home. My internet "research" only gives me info on fall, winter, and spring activity. I can't find any info on way they are being seen in the summer, I.e.August.

Hello Christopher,

It seems a bit early for cluster flies but I guess it could be them.  Are you sure of your ID?

Best regards,

Here is a photo of one. It's a bit blurry cause it is alive and was trying to get a quarter near it for size comparison.

Will try to get a clearer picture if I can find a dead one.

I can't tell from that photo, Cluster flies have tufts of golden hair on their undersides.   Please send me a high resolution photo of the fly's belly.  Place it on a piece of white paper and take the photo outside or nest to a window. Sharp, crisp focus helps too.
