Hoary Alyssum #845294

Asked August 11, 2023, 4:13 PM EDT

We have some Hoary Alyssum on our property and I want to know the best weed killer for this plant.

Park County Colorado

Expert Response

Hello Dan,
Hoary Alyssum is typically not found or common in Colorado.  Could you send a picture so I can confirm the identification?  I also need to identify to recommend.
Thank you.

Sorry for the late reply.  Attached is a photo from our property.  We have “outbreaks” in several places.

Thanks,

Dan Hancock

One more item.  I used the attached document to identify my plants a few weeks ago but I understand why you need to ask.

Thanks,

Dan Hancock

This looks like broadleaf pepperweed, Lepidium latifolium, there is a native pepperweed that looks similar but leaves aren't quite as wide and can get woody at the base.  Here is a handout from CA.  I like it because it gives multiple ways to control it.  If using chemicals, read and follow the label, it's the law.

Good luck with your weed issue.  Susan C, Chaffee County Director
