Apple Tree Care #844963

Asked August 09, 2023, 4:15 PM EDT

Hello: We just moved into a new house, and we have an apple tree in the back yard. There are a lot of apples on the tree, but it does not look like it is doing very well. We would like to request a agent to come out and take a look at the tree to see if it can be brought back to health.

Expert Response

Unfortunately, there are not any home horticulture people in Carroll County that do site visits.
We have information that can be helpful though.

Tree fruits like apples, pears, peaches etc. need a good deal of maintenance and management to do well in our climate, as there are multiple disease and pest issues that are common here.

Most homeowners aren't interested or able to do the precisely timed and repeated chemical sprays that these crops require to bear what most consider 'good' fruits. That's not to say that you can't get usable fruits though.

If you have specific questions, let us know.

This page will help you to investigate apple care and common issues as well as info on Fruits for the Home Garden such as small fruits, berries, and figs, which are much easier to grow here without a lot of care, time, and pesticide usage:
