Identifying growths on Red Oak #843226

Asked July 29, 2023, 5:10 PM EDT

My husband just pointed out these growths on our large red oak in the backyard. I was hit pretty hard in the big freeze and we had to have a bunch of limbs trimmed off. It has a good amount of health green leaves.

Looks to me that you have galls that are formed in response to insect activity, usually wasps.  They are harmless.  If you tree is otherwise healthy (and from your description, it sounds like it is), there is nothing to worry about.  Please see this Agrilife article on galls:  https://williamson.agrilife.org/2020/07/22/galls/
