what is eating my zinnia? #843188

Found some black something on the leaves of some of the zinnias and then a little later the pedals had been eaten off the plant and the plant had died. What was or is that

Without seeing images of what you observed it is impossible to determine the problem. The only thing I can think of without more information and images is an insect ate your plants. Caterpillars can leave behind frass (insect excrement) while they feed that can be small black specks. Other than that, we would need more information to determine the cause of your zinnias dying.
