Invasive beetle? #843149

Asked July 29, 2023, 7:31 AM EDT

Hi, I would like to send a picture of a very large beetle to someone who is familiar with forest invasive insects. Do you know who I should send it to? Thank you, Charlotte

Expert Response

Hello Charlotte,

Go ahead and post it to this message and we can take a look. If we cannot ID, then we can consult with our entomologist. If you are having trouble uploading the photo, email it to <personal data hidden>

Clear and close photos are great with a ruler or object that helps with scale are appreciated. Also note if the insect was found (in tree, on ground, etc.) and any conditions that would help us identify.

Hi Charlotte,

Thank you for your call to the Helpline on Thursday, 8/4. We still have not received a photo from you and so, unfortunately, are unable to assist you with the insect identification.

If, in the future, you would like to resubmit your question with a photo, please enter it at: https://www.uvm.edu/extension/mastergardener/helpline

Or, if you have a specimen, you may send it into the UVM Plant Diagnostic Lab for identification -- please include this form: https://www.uvm.edu/sites/default/files/Extension-Community-Horticulture/PDC_Specimen_Worksheet_fillable_form.pdf.

Thank you!
