Type of beetle? #842815

Asked July 27, 2023, 8:29 AM EDT

These were all over outside in my landscaping and now I'm seeing some inside that seem to be coming through the drain pipes. What kind of beetle/bug are they? Thank you -C

Expert Response

You don’t say what size they are and it’s difficult to identify for sure from these photos but they look like stag beetles. Here are some photo references. They are beneficial insects.

If they are smaller, they could be a ground beetle. Also a beneficial insect.

If they are coming into your house, you should find out where and try to block that entrance. They are not usually seen inside houses. They live on decayed wood so check if you have wood piles around.
