Tree webbing #841392

Asked July 18, 2023, 6:55 PM EDT

Hi there! This Crimson Maple was planted October of 2022. I noticed some webbing last week and I don’t know what to do about it. I’ve read about Spongy Moth and fall worm, but I’m not sure what I’m dealing with here. It’s encapsulated more of the tree in the last week. Any guidance is much appreciated!

Expert Response

These are not spongy moths but Fall Webworm. The adult lays 100s of eggs who hatch into larvae and live in a web. You can prune the branch out that has this webbing and caterpillars.
