Brown Pine Trees #839962

Asked July 10, 2023, 4:38 PM EDT

We have property in Weston Colorado. Sometime between February and April a large number of pine trees in the lower elevation on the ranch turned brown (quickly). Could it have been a late cold snap, or could there be something else affecting the trees (see pictures)? Now in July, some green is coming back on the tips of the trees. If it was the cold weather, will the trees eventually recover or are they dying?

Paula:

Hello! Unfortunately I am not a tree expert, and while it looks like maybe at some point it did not receive enough moisture, I don't want to say that definitively. However, I would recommend you call our local CSU Forest Service Office in La Veta. They are always great abut helping people identify problems with their trees. Their phone number is<personal data hidden>, I believe Jared would be able to help you. They may not always be in the office so please leave a message! Also, feel free to reach out to me directly with more questions at <personal data hidden>. I am the extension agent for agriculture and 4-H for Las Animas County.
