Shriveled leaves on bush beans #839758

Asked July 09, 2023, 2:11 PM EDT

Hello. I planted 5 bush bean plants and two of the younger ones are getting leaves as pictured. Is this a pest or disease? I can’t see anything on them.

Expert Response

Hi- if all of the leaves on the two plants have this appearance, it's possible that a virus is the cause. Viruses are transmitted by insect feeding. Pull the plants out and replant with new seeds.

If only some of the leaves are affected, the symptoms may be caused by some unfavorable growing conditions or plant stressors. If the plants are otherwise healthy they may grow out of this issue and produce flowers and pods.
