Bug Identification #838839
Asked July 03, 2023, 3:51 PM EDT
I found this bug on my bed after coming back inside from sitting underneath a Douglas fir. At first I was worried it could be a bed bug, but I did not find signs of any and the head shape and patternings appears to be different. There are cypress and fir trees in our backyard, so I was wondering if it may actually be an aphid of sorts that I brought in with me. Unfortunately the pictures are a little fuzzy as it was small. What kind of bug is this?

Hi Sydona,
Yes, you are right. That is an aphid. It is one from the genus Cinara--commonly called giant conifer aphids because they are generally large, at least compared to other aphids.
Of course, aphids do not harm people and giant conifer aphids do not typically negatively affect the health of conifer trees.
