We have a large ant starting to build a mound in our yard. We are unsure of what it is and the extent of what type of colony may be underground. I have a video that I could send. The picture is not very good.

I doubt that your video would be that helpful in identifying the species of ant that you have. If possible, capture one or two in a plastic bag or glass container. Place that in the freezer to kill the ant without damaging it. Then inspect the insect with a magnifying glass. The following web site should be helpful.
