Propagating a Monstera #838080

Hello, I have a 3 year old monstera that's outgrowing it's pot, and I would like to propagate it, but I'm not sure how or where to cut. It's growing more outward than up, and I would like to train it to go vertical vs. horizontal. Google says to cut right below a node or aerial root; then would I plant the root directly down into a new pot (which would result in it kind of forming a boomerang shape? Once I plant the new trimmings, can I tie the stems to a rod to encourage vertical growth and it will climb that?
Thank you!
