Need help with Ohio Buckeye Tree #837303

My son received an Ohio Buckeye Tree when he went to eco week this spring. He has been working hard to take care of the tree so it can grow, but we noticed the leaves are turning brown and we are not seeing much new growth. We have fertilized and are using an anti-fungal spray weekly. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions to help revive him? This tree means a lot to my son. Thanks!

Hi Stephanie,
This is totally normal - the tree is adjusting to outdoor growing conditions (they are grown in a greenhouse). It's not likely to put on a lot of growth this season or new leaves. The most important thing it to keep it watered and then transplant it to its permanent location when you're able. I would also limit fertilization. Fertilizer usually stimulates top growth, but may limit the roots that grow, which is what you want.
