Weeping white pine has started to have browning needles starting about 3 weeks ago. The needles started browning on one side of the tree which made me think it was something that might have been sprayed accidentally. Now it has started to brown thru out. The brown needles are easily pulled away. The tree was watered last year and the once in the fall. It has been watered twice this year. Watering for this tree is done by a slow running hose at it's root line, about 24 hours. This tree has become the showcase of the yard and it is difficult to think it might be in distress.

Expert Response
How long has this tree been on the site? Is your soil sandy? Do you use any organic mulch below the drip line? The tree has excellent new growth so that tells me this plant was doing just fine last season. Also- it appears that only the older needles are shedding. My feeling is that this tree is reacting to the drought and could benefit from some deep soaking via a soaker hose or small sprinkler. If you do this, try to get water in the whole root zone, not just under the tree.
