Apple Scab—too late to treat? #837282
Asked June 24, 2023, 8:30 AM EDT
This crab tree appears to have the first signs of apple scab. We decided not to treat this yr due to expense (shoot). Is it too late to spray a fungicide? And, should I pick up fallen leaves as they fall? Thank you! Plymouth, MN.

Expert Response
Apple scab occurs when we have wet springs. it does not kill trees. Yes, pick up the leaves to remove the fungus from possibly causing scab next year. My two crab apples get apple scab every year when we have a wet spring and survive. Also review this website. https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/deciduous/crabapple/index.html
