Hello,
while mowing today I noticed a large number of white powdery looking spots on the branches of my magnolia tree. Also some of the leaves have a gray look to them. I searched some pictures on the internet and it seems like it could be a couple of things I am wondering if it is a fungus or scale (bug)? Is there a way to save the tree?
I appreciate your advice
Thanks

This is magnolia scale. Please see this fact sheet from OSU extension - https://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/ENT-61
I helped a woman with this problem, but she waited too long and we had to do some severe pruning on her tree (it has almost dead) and then do chemical control. The tree was smaller but was very vigorous and blooming the next spring.
