Expert Response

Hi Wanda,

Wild parsnip is one of the invasive species that is very difficult to control. I don't know how large an area you are dealing with. If it's a small area you have a better chance of eliminating it.

"Wild parsnip is dangerous to humans and is not recommended to be handpicked. It is critical to wear protective clothing (long sleeves, long pants, socks, gloves and goggles or a face mask). Contact with the sap combined with sun exposure can cause severe swelling and blistering." - University of Minnesota Extension.

I am providing you with a link from Vermont Invasives web site that will give you all the information you need to make a decision about management of this plant. Also, I have added a link to Invasive Plant Control Contractors in Vermont in case you want to hire someone to do this.
