These are a type of June Bug. More specifically they are known as a Summer Chafer or European Chafer (Amphimallon malale). As you observed they are very frequent at night, especially at this time of the yea.r They are a relatively new species in Minnesota that were first reported only a few years back. Just vacuum them up when you see them. They will soon disappear. See the following for more information:

Thanks for the update.
These critters should be mating and disappear within a few weeks. In the meantime they are relatively harmless albeit a nuisance. In night when they are active their movements and typically in an upwards direction.
