This bug is on my strawberry plants and is prolific. #836028

Asked June 16, 2023, 5:27 PM EDT

Hi, I’m hoping to save what little strawberries I have left. This bug is eating the leaves and new growth. I have put diatomaceous earth (old food grade) on and around the plant and hoped it would stop them. No luck. What can I do? I did place straw around the plants last spring and I noticed the bug (maybe a pale green weevil) last summer. I think that might need to be removed or tilled into the earth. Thanks for your time to consider and respond.

Thank you for your question and pictures. It appears you have a Green Immigrant Leaf Weevil, found on strawberry and other plant material in the spring and summer. This weevil does not cause extensive damage, and you can pick them off your strawberry plants or use a soap and water spray to keep them under control.
