I rye straw was laid down to control weeds and I have some weed seedling coming through are they rye from the heads in the straw or something else

Good afternoon and thank you for reaching out to ask2.extension. I'm not sure exactly what is coming up. Straw will seed so it could be either. A mulch doesn't necessarily mean no weeds I'm afraid. It's more for keeping moisture in the ground longer.
