Interesting worm-like on Grapes #835584

Asked June 14, 2023, 11:11 AM EDT

Greetings! Can you identify this most interesting little creature we noticed navigating on our grape bush? I have a pretty good MP4 file but this won't allow it. it's 208MB and shows its interesting movements. Thanks! Bill

Expert Response

Hello!

Are you referring to the string-like thing in the photo? If so, that is actually a called a tendril. A tendril is a slender stem-like structure that provides support for the plant. It can help the vines wrap around a structure. In grapes, the tendrils are found opposite the cluster and leaves.

If you weren't referring to the tendril let me know (you mentioned movement in a video). I looked at the photo closely, and couldn't find a worm. If I missed the worm, let me know! You can also email me the MP4 at <personal data hidden>.

Thanks,

Lisa
